Review and analysis of the workshop tunes

Fiddle workshops offered by 3 renowned teachers: Alexis Chartrand (Quebec repertoire), April Verch (Ottawa Valley repertoire) and Richard Forest (compositions and dance repertoire).

When registering for the workshops, participants choose the level* (beginner, intermediate, advanced) that best suits their experience and their ability to learn new repertoire.

  • Beginner: I know 5 traditional tunes and I can play them from memory at slow speed.
  • Intermediate: I know 15 traditional tunes and can play them from memory at moderate speed.
  • Advanced: I know a lot of traditional tunes and I can play them from memory at normal or even fast speed.

The workshops last 75 minutes each and are divided into 3 groups: beginner, intermediate and advanced. Over the course of the 2 days (Thursday and Friday) each level will benefit from two workshops from each of the three instructors, regardless of their level. Hence participants will benefit from the full experience and a wide variety of teaching, repertoire, approaches and technique.

As a bonus, workshop participants are invited to attend the staff concert on Thursday evening and participate in the jam session afterwards. To conclude, on Friday afternoon there will be a review of the tunes learned by each group, bringing together all participants of the 2022 fiddle workshops.

Also, please take note that an instrument check will be available for all workshops participants.
