PASCAL GEMME & TRISTAN HENDERSON

Pascal Gemme collecte activement les mélodies de violon de notre province depuis plus de vingt ans et c’est ce répertoire qui lui a permis de forger sa maîtrise technique du vocabulaire violonistique du Québec. Les tournées internationales de son trio Genticorum lui ont conféré une reconnaissance du public autant au Québec qu’à l’étranger.
Pascal a été interpelé en très bas âge par les airs de violon et les chansons qu’il entendait dans sa famille, tout particulièrement de son grand-père maternel. C’est à la fin des années 90 qu’il s’est totalement consacré au violon Trad, après la réception d’un diplôme en arrangement style «Big Band» et en guitare classique et jazz.
Pascal joue toujours avec son trio Genticorum et fait maintenant partie de l’organisation Danse Trad Waterville et Danse Trad Sherbrooke qui produisent des séries de danse Trad en Estrie.
Artiste multidisciplinaire dynamique — peintre, poète, auteur-compositeur-interprète, violoniste, guitariste et joueur de guimbarde — on ne sait jamais vraiment où l’on va retrouver Tristan Henderson ! Il a tourné pendant des années à travers les États-Unis, le Canada et au-delà avec Pete Sutherland et Oliver Scanlon au sein du trio Pete’s Posse. En 2019, il a également effectué une tournée en Europe avec les légendes cajuns Joel Savoy et Jesse Léger. Son parcours musical kaléidoscopique a commencé à l’âge de 10 ans avec la guitare électrique. Sa capacité à jouer de pratiquement tous les instruments à cordes (et même quelques autres !) fait de lui un accompagnateur, musicien de session et interprète très recherché. Musicien rythmique audacieux et puissant, il excelle aussi bien dans l’accompagnement que dans la mélodie et le chant. Originaire du Vermont, nous sommes très heureux de l’appeler maintenant notre voisin et un des piliers du festival puisqu'il vit et crée désormais à Sutton, au Québec !

Pascal Gemme has been actively collecting fiddle tunes from our province for over twenty years, and it is this repertoire that has allowed him to develop his technical mastery of Quebec’s fiddle vocabulary. The international tours of his trio, Genticorum, have earned him recognition both in Quebec and abroad.
Pascal was drawn to fiddle tunes and songs from a very young age, especially those he heard within his family, most notably from his maternal grandfather. It was in the late 1990s that he fully dedicated himself to traditional fiddle music, after earning a diploma in Big Band-style arranging as well as in classical and jazz guitar.
Pascal continues to perform with his trio Genticorum and is now also involved with Danse Trad Waterville and Danse Trad Sherbrooke who produce dance series in the Eastern Townships.
A dynamic multidisciplinary artist—painter, poet, singer-songwriter, fiddler, guitarist, and jaw harp player—you never quite know where you might encounter Tristan Henderson! He toured for years across the United States, Canada, and beyond with Pete Sutherland and Oliver Scanlon as part of the trio Pete’s Posse. In 2019, he also toured Europe with Cajun legends Joel Savoy and Jesse Léger. His kaleidoscopic musical journey began at the age of 10 with the electric guitar. His ability to play virtually any string instrument (and even a few others!) makes him a highly sought-after accompanist, session musician, and performer. A bold and powerful rhythm player, he excels equally in accompaniment, melody, and singing. Originally from Vermont, we are delighted to now call him a neighbor and one of the pillars of the festival, as he now lives and creates in Sutton, Quebec!

Profondément enraciné dans la vie culturelle de l’Estrie, Robert Goulet est l’un des piliers discrets mais essentiels de la danse traditionnelle dans la région de Sherbrooke. Fondateur de Danse Trad Sherbrooke, il a porté pendant plus de seize ans une pratique locale de la danse sociale, nourrie d’un répertoire collecté dans son propre milieu. Câlleur recherché et respecté, il est reconnu pour la clarté de ses appels, son énergie sur scène et sa capacité à faire danser autant les novices que les danseurs aguerris.
Immigré il y a 13 ans au Québec pour les études, Quentin Liot a rapporté avec lui ses danses, ses musiques, et a semé les graines de sa passion durant de nombreuses années au sein de Balfolk Montréal, puis Sherbrooke. Aujourd'hui, les racines sont solides, et s'allongent jusqu'au festival de violon de Sutton où il vous guidera pour danser toute la nuit sur un répertoire qui traverse l'Europe. Folkloriste passionné et figure bien connue du milieu de la danse traditionnelle québécoise, James Allan fait danser les gens depuis plusieurs décennies avec son style de câll unique, rythmé et sans artifices superflus. Après avoir notamment contribué à faire vivre l’héritage des célèbres soirées du Poulailler, il poursuit aujourd’hui son travail de transmission à Kinnear’s Mills, où il anime régulièrement des veillées de danse traditionnelle. Sa connaissance du répertoire et son approche chaleureuse promettent une excellente après-midi de danse à la Légion dans le cadre du partenariat avec L’AQLF.
Courtney Drew a commencé des cours de violon classique à l’âge de sept ans et s’est initiée au violon traditionnel peu de temps après. Ce n’est qu’à 18 ans qu’elle a découvert les concours ontariens de violon et de stepdance, où elle a depuis remporté de nombreux prix. Courtney a tourné avec le Scott Woods Band, Cécilia, et fait partie du trio Triptik. En plus de se produire sur scène, Courtney consacre son temps libre à l’enseignement et est très en demande comme violoneuse pour les danses. Elle détient une maîtrise en mathématiques et travaille comme statisticienne mathématique.

A passionate folklorist and a well-known figure in Quebec’s traditional dance community, James Allan has been getting people on the dance floor for several decades with his unique calling style—rhythmic and free of unnecessary embellishments. After helping to carry on the legacy of the famous Poulailler dance evenings, he now continues his work of transmission in Kinnear’s Mills, where he regularly leads traditional dance gatherings. His deep knowledge of the repertoire and his warm approach promise an excellent afternoon of dancing at the Legion as part of a partnership with the AQLF.
Courtney Drew began studying classical violin at the age of seven and soon after took up traditional fiddling. It wasn’t until she was 18 that she discovered the Ontario fiddle and stepdance competitions, where she has since won numerous awards. Courtney has toured with the Scott Woods Band and Cécilia, and is a member of the trio Triptik. In addition to performing, she devotes her free time to teaching and is in high demand as a fiddler for dances. She holds a master’s degree in mathematics and works as a mathematical statistician.
